For as long as i can remember, art has been a part of my life. My Grandpa taught me the basics of illustration and painting at a young age and from there I ran with it. I got into comic books which sparked me to create my own comic book stories and characters, then I got a Nintendo which led to sketching out made up video game levels, after that I go into designing spaces - maps, cities, places. It wasn’t until I got my hands on a computer that I realized the potential of my artistic abilities thus resulting in the establishment of my freelance design business subdesign studios in 2002.
My wife bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop for college our freshman year, I took it over, installing Photoshop and Dreamweaver and spending many late nights learning the apps. I started designing for my band subseven using our merch, website and promo stuff as a way to practice…thankfully the dudes in the band were gracious enough to let me learn this way. I attended two years of art classes at a local community college, but dropped out and hit the road when subseven signed a record deal. This resulted in more freelance design work for bands that we toured with, It was a great marriage of my love for design and music. While on tour, I would stay up all night in the hotel or the van designing, go to sleep while we drove to the next show, then get out play our set and do it all over again.
After the band called it quits in 2005, I focused all of my creative energy into my own freelance company, subdesign studios, and took on more work. In the fall of 2006 I was offered the opportunity to start a new design studio called Difted, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The family and I moved north in March 2007 to help build the team and most recently relocated west to Las Vegas.
Here’s to the future…
ElClinto.com is built on Wordpress. I use CODA for all edits to code, CSS and FTP-ing and Photoshop CS3 for all designery. Firefox is currently my browser of choice.
